Get festive this Valentines Day with a heart-shaped lunch or snack! All you need is a set of heart cookie cutters in various sizes.
Heart-shaped sandwich:
Keep the toppings simple so your shape will stay easily. Think grilled cheese and tomato soup or peanut butter and jelly.
Heart-shaped apples:
If you’re a fan of apples and cheddar or apples and peanut butter, here’s the perfect way to make your everyday snack festive. Slice apples in thin circles. Core each slice with a cookie cutter in the shape of a heart (it must be relatively small so you still have apple left to eat!) Then, choose what you’d like to add: peanut butter, almond butter, cheese, etc. Spread it on one slice and top with another to create a mini snack sandwich! Not to mention you can stay healthy throughout the day to make up for those scrumptious V-Day treats you’re saving for the evening!
Veggie or fruit snack:
Turn your veggies into Valentines Day treats! You’ll actually want to keep eating them because they’re so fun! Use a small cookie cutter to cut cucumbers, carrot slices, watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, kiwi, etc. Strawberries are the easiest because once you’ve removed the stem; each slice comes out in a heart shape!
Sticky Rice
Rice is a great filler for any meal or snack. Make it more interesting with a cute heart shape! While a regular cookie cutter works, one that is taller will be better for this snack. This is a big hit with kids, because rice is generally pretty dull- what’s exciting about a relatively bland, white snack? Not anymore!
Cheese and Crackers
Some crackers come in pre-formed heart shapes, so make sure to look out for that while Valentines Day items are still on the shelves. But you can easily cut your favorite cheese into hearts! Make sure that they are already cut in slices before you use the cookie cutter. Add those scraps to your heart-shaped grilled cheese for lunch!
Don’t have a cookie cutter? Have no fear!
If you don’t have a cookie cutter but you do have toothpicks, you are on your way to a cute and healthy snack. Take some mini carrot sticks or an oval-shaped tomato (like the Roma). Slice off just one end (about ¼) in a diagonal cut. Do this to one more. Then place the cut ends together to form a heart! Stick a toothpick through to keep them together (and make it look like an arrow stuck through the heart). You can do this with any small, oval-shaped food!
