Who doesn’t imagine a pampered morning with breakfast in bed, sunshine in the windows, and plenty of time to wake up? Start your Valentines Day off right with a lovable holiday-themed breakfast!
What better way to kick off the day than with some waffles? You may decide to go all-out and try the heart-shaped variety (check out this waffle iron from Fab: http://fab.com/sale/15319/product/247325/), or you and your valentine may, instead, choose to decorate your traditional circle-shaped waffles with some fresh strawberries. No matter your choice, here is a good recipe for crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside waffles.
Ingredients
2 eggs
1 ¾ cups milk
½ cup vegetable oil
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
Instructions
Beat the eggs until fluffy, then gradually add in rest of ingredients until the mixture has a smooth texture. Make sure to spray your (preheated) waffle iron with non-stick spray, and poor into iron one at a time. The recipe should make 6 waffles, depending on the size of your iron.
Top off with butter and syrup, peanut butter, powdered sugar and blueberries, or some strawberries!
If you are thinking, “Great, I love the idea, but really don’t like waffles,” have no fear! There are plenty of V-Day breakfasts to go around. Another idea may be heart-shaped eggs. You can do them hard boiled, or over easy (see slideshow). To create a heart-shaped over easy egg, keep your pan on a low temperature, and place a heart-shaped cookie cutter blunt side down in the pan. Crack the egg into the shape, and take the cutter out when it has cooked through! To reduce some of the hassle, you can also buy a heart-shaped pan, meant for making eggs or pancakes in heart shapes!
