Valentine to speak at Wolf Pack's Bobby Dolan benefit dinner (Photos)

Former major league manager Bobby Valentine will be the featured speaker at the Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team's Bobby Dolan benefit dinner on Monday night.

The dinner at John Ascuaga's Nugget Hotel and Casino begins at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and costs $150 per person. The proceeds go toward the budget of the Wolf Pack baseball team. Call 682-6901 or 682-6978 for ticket information.

The 62-year-old Valentine was fired in early October after one season as manager of the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox finished 69-93 under Valentine.

Valentine has a 1,186-1,165 career record as a major league managers with the Texas Rangers (1985-92), New York Mets (1996-2002) and Red Sox. He also managed in Japan.

The Los Angeles Dodgers made Valentine the fifth overall pick in the June 1968 amateur draft. Valentine made his major league debut just a year later and spent 10 years in the major leagues with the Dodgers, California Angels, Mets and Seattle Mariners from 1969-79.

Valentine, who is married to the daughter of former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca, hit .260 in his major league career with 12 home runs and 157 RBI.
