Valentine's weekend getaways

Many of Washington’s restaurants are offering specials for Valentine’s Day.  But there are other options for a special romantic event, other than fine dining.  Here are some romantic getaways and other choices:

Rappahannock County in Northern Virginia is planning some Valentine’s week-end events at country inns, wineries  and restaurants.  Here are a few of the wineries offering specials for the holiday.

On Saturday, February 11, Narmada Winery in Amissville (www.narmadawinery.com), and Gadino Cellars in “little” Washington (www.gadinocellars.com) will be pairing food with their wines. At Narmada, light fare and wine, followed by a tour of the winery, are offered at 2 and 4 p.m., priced at $25 per person. At Gadino, it will be a glass of wine and a cup of Italian wedding soup from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rates are $6 for the soup and $10 for soup and wine.

On Sunday, February 12, it’s the turn of Little Washington Winery in “little” Washington (www.lilttlewashingtonwinery.com) where wines will be paired with chocolates from 3 to 4 p.m. for a fee of $14.

For wine lovers who wish to spend the weekend at one of the many inns, wine tasting will be available on both Saturday and Sunday at Gray Ghost Winery, also located in Amissville (www.grayghostvineyards.com), where the 17th annual Valentine weekend will feature a combination of chocolate desserts and cabernet. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the price is $17 per person.

Sharp Rock Vineyards in Sperryville (www.sharprockvineyards.com) will celebrate the weekend with a “color it red” tasting, offering a preview of a new wine, a blend of malbec and cabernet sauvignon. Light fare is included in the tasting from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
