Valentine's weekend in Atlanta: it can be a family affair

Make the weekend leading up to Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2011 – which is this coming Monday – one the whole family can enjoy and participate in.

“Aladdin and the Arabian Nights":


Take the whole family to “Aladdin and the Arabian Nights,” a production of The Enchantment Theatre. Jere Flint will conduct the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. There will be life-size puppets and other visual wonder on Sunday, February 13, at 1:30 and 3:30 pm. Ticket prices range from $15-$20. Monster Jam


If you like outrageously big-wheeled vehicles overturning and leaping over heaps of stuff, then Monster Jam is for you (www.monsterjam.com/Tickets/2011/02/12/Atlanta,_GA/). The action comes to the Georgia Dome Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $110 (the Total Access Pass). All tickets $2 more on the day of show.

Night hike at Panola Mountain State Park:

Hike up the mountaintop with an experienced guide on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. The site advises that hikers bring flashlights, hiking boots and water. Meet at the nature center 30 minutes the program. Register in advance. Panola Mountain State Park’s address is 2600 Highway 155, SW, Stockbridge, GA 30281. Cost is $7 plus $5 parking.   • The 10th Annual Chattahoochee Challenge 10K Race at 8 a.m. to benefit the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Give others support:

According to information on Underground Atlanta’s web site, a bra is the single item of clothing women in need often need. Weaves in the City, located at downtown’s Underground Atlanta (http://www.underground-atlanta.com/) is supporting the bi-annual “bra drive” of retailer Soma Intimates (last year, Soma collected more than 28,000 bras and redistributed them to local charities). Drop off gently used or new bras at the salon now through Feb. 14.
