As if the Internet needs one more writer trying to rank on page one for the search terms ‘Valentine’s poems and Valentine's Songs’, right?

But for those in the New Age ‘industry’, participating in all things Valentine’s Day is a veritable Universal Law. If memory serves, it should be right above the subsection regarding mandatory involvement in Halloween.

Nonetheless, how can any woman resist relishing in all the sweet treats of Valentine’s Day? Even if she’s currently in the emotional place where love sucks, all it takes is the right commercial, meme or webpage full of love laden poems and quotes to make her grab a stuffed bear and believe once again.

So here it is, this New Ager’s love offering for Valentine’s Day 2014.

Valentine’s Day Quotes

Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius. - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)

We can do no great things; only small things with great love. - Mother Theresa

The heart has reasons that reason cannot know. - Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

Wherever you go, go with all your heart. - Confucious (551-479BC)

Friends can help each other. A true friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself - and especially to feel. Or, not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That's what real love amounts to - letting a person be what he really is. - Jim Morrison

Valentine’s Day Poems, well, Poem

The poem ‘Love’s Language’ by Ella Wheeler Wilcox is, perhaps, among the quintessential love poems.

Though this poet’s name might be a bit obscure to some, her famous line "Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone" is one of the most quoted sentiments in history (there’s no empirical data to back this up, it’s really just a hunch based on hearing it a zillion times).

Like the best of lovers, this poem takes its time; touching every part of...LOL! Yeah, this is why poetry is best left to the prose...uh...pros.

How does Love speak?
In the faint flush upon the telltale cheek,
And in the pallor that succeeds it; by
The quivering lid of an averted eye--
The smile that proves the parent to a sigh
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?
By the uneven heart-throbs, and the freak
Of bounding pulses that stand still and ache,
While new emotions, like strange barges, make
Along vein-channels their disturbing course;
Still as the dawn, and with the dawn's swift force--
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?
In the avoidance of that which we seek--
The sudden silence and reserve when near--
The eye that glistens with an unshed tear--
The joy that seems the counterpart of fear,
As the alarmèd heart leaps in the breast,
And knows, and names, and greets its godlike guest--
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?
In the proud spirit suddenly grown meek--
The haughty heart grown humble; in the tender
And unnamed light that floods the world with splendor;
In the resemblance which the fond eyes trace
In all fair things to one belovèd face;
In the shy touch of hands that thrill and tremble;
In looks and lips that can no more dissemble--
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?
In the wild words that uttered seem so weak
They shrink ashamed in silence; in the fire
Glance strikes with glance, swift flashing high and higher,
Like lightnings that precede the mighty storm;
In the deep, soulful stillness; in the warm,
Impassioned tide that sweeps through throbbing veins,
Between the shores of keen delights and pains;
In the embrace where madness melts in bliss,
And in the convulsive rapture of a kiss--
Thus doth Love speak.

- Ella Wheeler Wilcox
