When you are a single parent Valentine’s Day can be a difficult day to get through. While the day can seem to be a constant reminder about not having someone special at the moment, change your focus and make the day special for your children. Show your children today (not that you do not during the rest of the days) that they are the loves of your life.
There are many ways this can be done. Make or give your children a special card that lets them know how much you love and cherish them. For lunch, think about packing your children something special. If you have a daughter surprise her with her favorite color flowers when she comes home from school. Turn off the television and other devices and make an extra effort today to spend time with your children when they get home today. One of the best gifts we can give our children is our time. Having game or movie night is always fun.
Make dinner time tonight special. If you do not have a lot of time, several of the local Chick-fil-a’s are having a Valentine’s family night. If you have more time, have you and the children make dinner and/or dessert together. This is a great bonding time. There are a lot of different foods you can make that relate to Valentine’s Day. You could make heart biscuits, a strawberry salad, chocolate covered strawberries, red-velvet heart cakes, cupcakes etc. Be creative!
You may even think about doing something special for someone else. You and your children could make Valentine’s Day cards for your family and neighbors. A small gesture can go a long way sometimes. No matter what you decide to do today, remind those around you how much you love and cherish them.
