In Part Two of the Valentine's Day on the cheap series, let's talk about the different types of activities you and your loved one can enjoy. Whether you're staying in or going out to play, here's a few things to do around Honolulu.
1. Valentine's Day Live Motown Tribute: Nextdoor at 43 N. Hotel St. from 930 p.m.- 2 a.m. It's a nine piece band featuring backup singers and horn section throwing down the old school jams like "Baby Love" and "I'll Be There." Enjoy those classic hits from Motown that make you want to cuddle up close with your lover. $10-$20. For more information check out: http://motownvalentines.eventbrite.com.
2. Comedy Night: Comedy and romance is a wonderful combination. The Showroom in Honolulu has Comedy Night every Tuesday with standup comics. Check their web site for details for pricing. Doors open at 715 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
3. Spa Day/Night: I'm not suggesting going to an expensive spa. No, instead, you can do treat him/her to a spa at home. Here's some cheap products. Go to your local pharmacy, Walmart or even an everything for a dollar store:
-
Sensual massage with baby oil. Or if you want to make a little massage oil to put in a bottle that you make a label for (you can just print something off of the computer and glue it to the bottle if necessary), then here's some ideas use 40 % walnut oil and 60% safflower oil. If you want to add a scent, use an extract, like vanilla or almond--make sure your lover is not allergic to peanuts!
-
Draw a bubble bath. That is very relaxing, and with the addition of chocolate and a glass of champagne, it's a night. You can get bruised rose petals from your local florist and sprinkle them in. Or you can buy fake petals at a craft store.
-
Throw in a foot rub and you're definitely winning at Valentine's Day.
4. Scavenger Hunt: Make the clues fairly simple, either relating to things that you both like, or stuff that can be googled. Each item can be a tiny part of a gift, and leads from place to place. The clues could be funny, or hints of places that mean a lot to you on the island. This game can be as creative as you make it!
5. Movie Night: Whether it's a RomCom or a tear-jerking drama, having a night with your Valentine and Netflix is a wallet-easy way to spend time together.
Regardless of what you do for Valentine's Day, have fun and stay within your budget!
