You don’t have to buy expensive jewelry, purchase an over-priced bouquet of flowers or dine at an expensive restaurant in order to properly express your love on Valentine’s Day. But you do have to have the right perspective—God’s (1 John 4:8-11).
Demonstrating your love requires more heart and thought rather than dollars and cents. Below are a few suggestions on how you can affirm your love through matching your actions to your words (1 John 3:18).
Under $60. Picnic lunch/dinner at the Dallas Arboretum on the Martin Rutchik concert stage and lawn area, overlooking White Rock Lake. Admission is $12 per person or $10 for those who are 65 and older. Parking is $7 and the Arboretum hours are from 9:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. seven days a week.
Either take Valentine’s Day off, or leave work by noon and prepare a nice picnic lunch/dinner, packed with your spouse’s favorite finger foods (e.g., buffalo wings, sliders, mini-sandwiches, fruit, cheese, sparkling cider, chocolate dipped strawberries, etc.). Bring some soothing music, a blanket to sit on and if it’s chilly, something to keep your spouse warm. Be creative and have fun.

Whether you’re the planner or the recipient of any of these romantic and refreshing ideas, remember to keep it in God’s perspective and not yours or the worlds. The concentration should not be on how much money you’ve spent, but on how much love you’ve expressed to God (1 John 5:3-5).
