Competition in Thailand sees male couple break Guinness World Record for kissing
Here in San Francisco, while many couples are celebrating Valentine's Day with a box of San Francisco's very own Sees Candy and a movie at the Century Daly City, odd top news is coming in that one male couple overseas broke the kissing record.
The kissing itself is very fitting for Valentine's Day. But how long should a loving kiss be?
Newser.com reports that, in Thailand, one gay male couple spent over 2 days kissing in order to smash the record for the longest kiss recorded by Guinness World Records. The winning couple in fact, ended up kissing for 50 hours straight.
"That's a lot of kissing! I would imagine their lips would be sore!" says San Francisco resident Paula Warren.
The competition started in Pattaya, Thailand, on Sunday and finished, as you might expect, on Valentine's Day.
The criteria for the competition were that any couple competing had to stand in a small space - a one meter square, in fact.
They could only take food and water given through a straw and any bathroom breaks had to be accompanied by a referee, says the UK's Telegraph newspaper. Competing couples had to keep their lips locked throughout all of the above. No bathroom breaks at all were allowed in the first 3 hours of the kissing competition.
And the prize for such a lengthy smooch? The winning couple took away a diamond ring and a hotel gift voucher. The ring, according to newser.com is worth over $3,200 and the hotel voucher is worth twice that amount.
The winners were Nontawat Jaroegenasornsin, 31, and his partner Thanakorn Sittiamthong, 28, says the UK's Daily Mail.
Mr Jaroegenasornsin told press: 'We are happy about the result. We won because we supported each other.
The previous record, according to the Montreal Gazette was for 46 hours, 24 minutes and nine seconds.
That record was set in 2011 by Lakkana Tiranarat, 31, and her husband, both back this year for another go. They did not win but were happy for the couple that did.
