Valentine's Day goods are going to the dogs

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and plenty of people include their fur friends in the celebrations.  Since chocolates and a bouquet of thorny flowers won't do, what kind of goodies should you consider?  Here are half a dozen ideas, many locally sourced, that would be perfect for your canine cupid.

 1.  Unique and fun gifts are a winner.  Corte Madera based PetExpertise is an online dog supply store, specializing in training items and healthy, hard to find goods.  Their Himalayan Hard Cheese and Deer Antler chews get two paws up from the most discerning chewers.

 2.  If fashion is your thing, consider a comfortable and snazzy collar, harness or leash.  Paco Collars, based in Berkeley, are hugely popular and their custom collars and tags make quite a stunning statement on any Spot.

 3.  For Houdini hounds that like to roam, Tagg -The Pet Tracker might be the gift of choice.  These GPS collars allow you to quickly locate your dog anywhere, anytime and will even send a text or email when your dog goes outside of it's "allowed" area.

 4.  Want moments with you pet to last forever?  Call one of the many professional pet photographers in the Bay Area who will capture your dogs attitude and "best side" on film for a priceless piece of art.  If you're a DIY type, grab a friend and camera before heading out to direct your own photo shoot.

 5.  No cash to celebrate the holiday?  Your dog will be plenty happy to spend an afternoon with their favorite person.  Consider what their favorite activities are and plan a trip to the beach, a nature hike, a play date with friends or a relaxing massage at home with you.

 6.  If you've been considering adopting a pooch or kitty, check out the SF SPCA's Valentine's Day Adopt-A-Thon from Feb 10-12.  In addition to educational and fun events, adoption fees are being reduced to $10, $11 or $12 depending on which day you adopt.
