Valentine’s Day is just around the corner so why not surprise the one you love with a special handmade gift.
Create an inexpensive custom gift bag at a workshop hosted by the city of Palmdale on Friday, February 7, from 3:30 to 5 pm at the Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center, 3850 E. Ave. S in Palmdale. The workshop is for ages 5 and up.
The cost is only $10, plus a $5 materials fee payable to the instructor. The instructor will be Juanita McWilliams.
“This class will inspire you or bring out the true artist that may have been hidden in you,” said Recreation Coordinator Becky Errea. “Students will learn how to use different materials, dried flowers, stones, shells, craft objects and colors, and different painting medium techniques. This class only has one rule---just have fun!”
Participants should bring a towel and water bottle with them to class. Registration is available online, at the recreation and culture office located at 38260 10th St. East in Palmdale, or by calling (661) 267-5611.
Create a photo album – so many people have digital cameras now, but how many actually print out the pictures? Create an album for the person you love. Affordable scrap books are available at Walmart with already designed pages. For about $20 one can get a 12x12 scrapbook with preprinted pages in protective vinyl sleeves. All that is needed is to add the pictures. For the more creative, buy a packet of pages and any of the hundreds of sticker design sets to decorate the pages. There is everything from beach scenes to glittery princess designs.
For those who love pampering, design a gift basket filled with bath gel, bath scrunchies, and bubble bath. Or perhaps a matching set of bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths. For the cooks in the family, design a basket for their specialty—baking or chefs—with measuring spoons, a rolling pin, cookie cutters and cheese cloth or perhaps a meat tenderizer, seasonings, and pot holders. These are thoughtful gifts that will let the recipient know they are much loved.
