Valentine's Day gift ideas for your man

If you’re looking to show love to your spouse without giving in to all the commercial hype surrounding Valentine’s Day, then you’ve come to the right place. Our society places lots of emphasis on what to get women—flowers, candy, jewelry. But what about men? What should you give your husband for Valentine’s Day?

Sure, you could give him something he’s been wanting, such as a new tool or a gadget for his car. He would probably appreciate that, but such an item may not seem like an appropriate Valentine’s Day gift. Why not supplement it with something else? Here are some other ideas:

  • Romantic homemade dinner. Make his favorite meal and eat it by candlelight. Feed the kids earlier to make your Valentine’s dinner special.

  • Personal massage. Give him a foot massage, or even a whole-body massage. This can be a much-appreciated gift if he likes to be touched.

  • Biggest fan. Sit with him while he plays his favorite video game or watches sports or “Star Trek.” Entering his world says “I love you” in a language he understands.

  • Treasure hunt. Exploit your husband’s natural hunting and gathering tendencies and send him on a treasure hunt. Write down 10 things you love about your husband, addressed to him. Cut the 10 things apart and hide them around the house, adding a clue to each one to help him find the next. If you really want to make this about your husband, change it to 10 things you respect about him. Now you’re really speaking his language.

Note: Ladies, if you want something specific for Valentine’s Day, don’t expect your husband to read your mind and figure that out. Avoid disappointment for both of you and tell him exactly what you want.

If your marriage isn't where it should be or could be this Valentine's Day, you may want to give the gift of attending marriage counseling with your husband.
