Valentine’s Day: Decorating ideas for romance (Photos)

With Valentine’s Day approaching, the season for romance is here, so why not add spice to your home and life by decorating for this special occasion. Even with a tight budget, it’s easy to create a cozy atmosphere for the one you love. A few well-placed tasteful touches will create a romantic atmosphere and add zest to your everyday décor.

Add Color with Flowers

Nothing brings life and romance to a room more quickly than fresh flowers. Pick up a simple bouquet of flowers at Costco or your local grocery store. Divide the bundle into several groups, cutting the stems so that some are longer than others for height. Arrange a few blooms together in several small vases or decorative glassware, and place them around your home - on a mantle, a desk, a nightstand or the bathroom vanity.

Create an Elegant Table

Treat your significant other to a romantic dinner by transforming your dining table. If you have fine china and flatware, bring it out of the cabinet, not just for the day but for the entire week. If not, it’s easy to find attractive cut-glass stemware, lovely tableware and chic plate chargers or place mats at Tuesday Morning or Pier 1. Instead of paper napkins, arrange cloth napkins in triangles on each plate, or place them upright in a wine glass.

Make a Lavish Bed

What’s more romantic than luxury bed linens? Now is the season for white sales, so indulge yourself and your partner with high thread count sheets. Shop the Peacock Alley Outlet or Tuesday Morning for sheets trimmed in lace or satin and plush comforters, duvet sets and pillows. Don’t be afraid to add color, maybe even a touch of red for fun.

Bring Out the Bubbly

Tantalize your loved one with champagne or wine served in an elegant champagne bucket. Stop by the Crate and Barrel Outlet, Pottery Barn or Williams-Sonoma for a silver plate, pewter or cut glass bucket. Pick up a pair of delicate glasses along with the bucket and place them on the dining table or next to the bed.

Cozy Up with Colorful Pillows

Nothing adds instant color like accent pillows. Create zest with bright red, green or blue patterned pillows from The Great Indoors. If you’re crafty, sew or knit your own heart shaped pillows. Place them on accent chairs or add them in multiples to bedcovering.

Create Soft Light with Candles

Let the glow of candlelight create romantic ambience. Group tealights or votives in multiples on a table, mantle or vanity, and mix together candles of red and white. Simple glass votive or tealight holders can be found at Michaels.

Create romance and show your loved one how much you care with a few elegant changes to your décor for Valentine’s Day.
