Manatee County, FL ~ Preschoolers through fifth graders who love their pets only have a couple more days to sharpen up their pencils and crayons and create a work of art depicting themselves and their pets for the Humane Society of Manatee County kids’ drawing contest (but not just Manatee County kids; everyone in this age group is encouraged to participate).

Each entry must show the artist and his or her pet(s) and be submitted to the Humane Society of Manatee County, 2515 14th St. W., Bradenton, FL 34205 along with a completed entry form that can be downloaded here. The deadline for personal delivery by hand (or postmark if you mail it in) is 5 p.m. Feb. 14.

Winners will be announced at high noon at the 8th Annual Paws in Motion Walk-a-Thon Fundraiser (event begins at 9 a.m.), a rain-or-shine event to be held March 8 at the Bradenton Riverwalk pavilion, 452 Third Ave. W., Bradenton).and the drawings displayed Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third-place winners for each age group, and though young artists need not be present to win, they’d probably like to be as 1 – They’ll miss a lot of fun if they miss this! 2 - They’re to receive prizes and 3 – they’ll have their photo taken for the Bradenton Herald! (Whoo-hoo!)

The Walk-A-Thon provides fun for the whole family, including well-behaved, leashed fur kids; just please remember to bring no more than two dogs per walker and that no retractable leashes are allowed. There will be entertainment, prizes, vendors, food, and the super-cool Doggie Fun Zone Obstacle Course. (Hey, why should the people have all the fun?!)

Walk-a-Thon registration begins at 8 a.m. March 8 at the event. The cost is $25 for adults and $10 for those younger than 16; proceeds help the Humane Society of Manatee County provide shelter, food, and medical care for hundreds of needy animals each year. This help is especially needed this year as HSMC has already taken in an extra 35 dogs for 2014 due to the hoarding case that was just addressed in Manatee County.

For more information about the drawing contest or Walk-a-Thon celebration, call Samantha at (941) 747-8808, Ext. 310, or send her an email at Samantha@humanesocietymanatee.org.

Remember: February 14th contest deadline and March 8 fun event. See you there and good luck!
