Staying in or going out for Valentine’s Day in Dallas? Would you like a few suggestions that include a little wine? Be sure to make your dinner reservation as far in advance as possible! Here are some favorite restaurants of Dallas locals and some wine advice if you are dining at home.
If you are staying in, make it special with some bubbly (Pogo's at Lover's/Inwood does a great job with a broad price range of champagnes), cook together and pick up a fun dessert! (think La Duni, Society cupcakes!) Don’t forget to pick up some special wines for the romantic evening. A couple suggestions that work well with foods of the winter season are the 2007, Ravenswood old vine Zinfandel and the 2009 Cupcake Red Velvet.
Ravenswood has been making Zinfandel for over 30 years and there is a touch of blackberry and a finish of cinnamon. On Valentine’s Day, enjoy a fire, Ravenswood Zinfandel and a delicious hearty stew or grilled filet with a wild mushroom sauce.
Cupcake Red Velvet is a bit softer on the palate, with the aromas of chocolate, mocha and blackberry. The predominant grape is Zinfandel, but the Zinfandel is blended with Merlot, Cabernet and Petit Sirah and offers a soft finish. A perfect pairing for chocolate fondue!
If staying in seems like too much work, venture out, but have a plan and reservations or the evening can be disastrous. It happens to be a BIG Dallas holiday!
If you have a cozy restaurant in mind not far from you north Dallas home and French food suits you, then Cadot’s the spot. For $49.95 before tax and tip-the menu choices look splendid! (North Dallas) http://www.cadotrestaurant.com/pdfs/2011_valentines.pdf
The Grape is one of my time favorite spots in the Dallas metroplex for romantic dining. Enjoy three courses for $65.00 each and wine pairings for an extra $20 per person. (Lower Greenville)
Charlie Palmer’s The Joule-Lavish in love for the weekend or just a night of dining with a three course over-the- top dinner at $95.00 per person, with wine at $30 per person for pairings.
For those in midtown, Dallas, Bolla at the Stoneleigh Hotel is a real gem. Bolla is not open Sunday the the 13th, but a delightful four- course menu is offered both Saturday night and Monday the 14th. Also take advantage of other specials throughout the month for happy hour and four course dinners for $40. All of these specials are posted on the website! http://www.stoneleighhotel.com/restaurant-dallas/documents/Valentines2011.pdf
