Okay, we know this never happens but for the sake of arguement, let's pretend. You meet someone with whom you want to get physical with. You go out for a night on the town and if you survive the stray bullets downtown and the drunk drivers, you head back to your your place and get to know each other more personally. Things go well and you spend the night together.
It's now morning. The other person is still in bed. Now is your opportunity to really impress with a special, very special, breakfast in bed. You see the oatmeal (bad choice). There staring you in the face is the smiling Capt'n Crunch (nope, this will not impress unless you watch Saturday morning cartoons as well). Because you're you, you're thinking Pop Tarts (this will prove you're lame). Face it, you've blown the one chance you may ever have at finding lust in (at least with another human being)!
Now, if you want to be original and think ahead, you will have the golden opportunity to truly impress this person and all you have to do is think... bacon and eggs -- well, sorta.
Though bacon and eggs is quite delicious, it is far from impressive. Now, if you use pancetta (an Italian cured bacon) and some delicious roasted red peppers and just a sprinkling of chili powder, you can present a breakfast in bed this person will remember long after he/she dumps you for someone with a mansion at Tahoe, a time-share in Hawaii and a bank account in Switzerland.
Here is all you have to do. Fry some eggs in butter. Simple enough right? Take a few pieces of pancetta (you can buy this at any local market in the deli section) and gently fry it for a few minutes (it's smoked so don't worry about the cooking time). Make a nice presentation on the plate and add the roasted red peppers in an artistic way to make his/her eyes ogle.
If you want to see how I prepare this for these special occasions, just take a look at the picture in the slideshow. It's quite easy, takes very little time and dammit, it's delicious!
Okay, back to reality. This makes a tasty start to a lonely day and feel free to throw the cat a slice of pancetta!
