Valentine's Date Night

Here’s a perfect recipe for Valentine’s festivities that your loved ones won’t soon forget.

“Date Night"

Ingredients:  Take one dinner, add a romantic or funny movie and finish with a dash of popcorn (and extra servings of love).

Since the focus on any Valentine’s celebration should be your loved one(s), keep dinner simple.  How about a “do it yourself” pizza with all your favorite toppings?  Boboli makes a great ready-made crust that you can find in any grocer - usually near the pizza and spaghetti sauces.   Add your favorite toppings and you’re there!

Want to keep it a lower fat fare?  Try topping your pizza with items such as chicken, broccoli, green peppers, pineapple, onion and mushroom.  Steer clear of pepperoni, sausage and  bacon.  Ok, if you must have some fatty meat, ham is a good option for the middle ground.

Popcorn

Ready for your movie and popcorn?  The lower-fat fare include Jolly Time Healthy Pop Butter Flavor, Kettle Corn or Carmel Apple with 110 calories and 2 grams of fat per serving, Act II 94% Fat Free Butter or Newman’s Own 94% Fat Free Popcorn with 110 calories and 1.5 grams of fat.  Want something in the middle?  Try Act II Light Butter which has 100 calories and 4.5 grams of fat or Pop Secret Light Butter with 120 calories and 4.5 grams of fat.  Try to avoid anything with the words “ultimate”, “extra butter”, “extreme” or “blast” as these have anywhere from 15 - 18 grams of fat per 5 cup serving.

Chocolates

Want to give your loved ones chocolates, but know they’re watching their weight.  Remember that splurging on occasion is ok—it’s even recommended!  If you want to choose lower fat items, try items with raisins, crispies or caramel versus straight milk chocolate.  Lower fat items include Raisinettes, Krackel Bars and Tootsie Rolls.

And the good news is that you can cook up this “date night” any other time of the year, too.  Share the love…it’s good for your heart!
