Vacant structure in Allentown's NIZ could become a new music venue

Members of Live, a rock band, plans to turn a vacant structure in a parking lot at Eighth and Linden Streets into a six-story music venue for Allentown. The building is located within Allentown's Neighborhood Improvement Zone (NIZ) and is eligible for the special tax financing.

Think Loud Development, having three members of the band Live as investors, is in talks to buy the property, which is owned by the Allentown Parking Authority.

They want to develop a building that houses a multi-level stage, with a private VIP lounge, 6,200 square foot restaurant, and 31,200 square feet of office space. An added twist would be the indoor stage having moveable walls and the ability to convert into a outdoor music hall.

Think Loud has entered into a formal partnership with the construction management firm Alvin H. Butz, Inc., and the two parties have agreed to work together on their Allentown development projects.

They currently are working on United Fiber & Data, the fiber optic firm is partly owned by members of the band, and will occupy a building constructed by Butz. Another project to buy the old Colonial Theater site and turn into a mixed used building, fell through.

The proposed music venue project would cost about $42 million to develop, if the land purchase is approved, and construction could start as early as December, taking about a year to complete.
