UTSA have gotten a doubles combination in to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships as Diogo Casa and Yannick Junger won through the qualifying rounds at the Michael D Case Tennis Center in Tulsa on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The two had to do it from the very start playing in all four rounds as they fought their way through to be one of the 32 teams that survived to enter the main draw against the seeded teams beginning on Thursday.
UTSA also had the combination of Joel Rubio and Tomas Stillman who managed to make it to the third round of the qualifying.
It was so close to being a very different story for Casa and Junger as they were pushed all the way in the opening round needing a 9-7 tie break to get past Miami's Omar Aly-Wilfredo Gonzales.
The second round saw Rubio and Stillman join the fray and they got past Victor Cornea and David Fox of Middle Tennessee to advance to the Semi-Final round.
They were joined in the third round by Casa and Junger as they got past the Memphis pairing of Johnny Grimal and David O'Leary 8-5.
Rubio and Stillman's tournament ended in the third round as they fell to Elliot Orkin and Gordon Watson from Florida who managed an 8-5 win.
That left just Casa and Junger for the Roadrunners and they advanced to the final round thanks to another tie break as they eliminated Francisco Dias and Danil Zelenkov from George Washington.
The winner takes all match in the final round was much more comfortable for the UTSA pair as they managed an 8-5 win over Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alvarez to head to the main draw of the tournament.
That main draw will begin on Thursday afternoon with UTSA's pair set to face a tough match-up against the number six seed as they take on Manfred Jeske and Mike Nott from Arkansas at 5pm.
