19th ranked Utes will host the Air Force tomorrow at 2:00 pm MDT at Rice-Eccles Stadium. This is the first of three home games for the Utes. The game can be watched live on Versus on October 24, 2009.
Kyle Whittingham has many years of experience as the Utah head coach, but playing the Air Force requires a different skill: "Every year when you play these guys you've got your hands full," Whittingham said. "That option attack they bring to the table offensively is a headache for your defense," Whittingham told the Associated Press.
The Utes have beaten the Air Force five out of the last six times they’ve played.
"You have to prepare a special game plan to prepare for this game and you only use it once a year," Whittingham said. "Everybody they play has got to depart from what they do normally week to week defensively and have a special plan ready to try to slow that option game down."
"Historically we really don't pay a lot of attention to it to be honest with you. It's nice to be in the mix and it's nice to be recognized but we're only at the halfway point in the season. We've still got a lot of football left," Whittingham said. "Our team has done a good job for long time now to put everything out of their mind except the task at hand, and right now that's Air Force this week," the Associated Press reported.
