Unlike the BYU men’s basketball team that jumped around like kangaroos after learning of their NCAA Tournament destination, the Utah Utes gymnastics squad was more measured in their video response upon discovering what NCAA Regional destination they would be headed to on Monday, March 24.
The Utes, who were also the first Utes team to be crowned as conference champions since the school entered the Pac-12, earned the No. 1 seed and will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas later this month.
They will compete alongside in-state rival Utah State, conference foes UCLA, Arizona State, and UC-Davis -- as well as host Arkansas.
BYU will compete in the Seattle Regional with Boise State and Washington, while the Southern Utah Thunderbirds will compete in Minneapolis.
Here is the complete list of schools going to the NCAA Tournament:
NCAA Regional Fields, Saturday, April 5 (in order of seed)
Fayetteville Regional (Host: Arkansas): Utah, UCLA, Arkansas, Arizona State, Utah State, UC-Davis
Athens Regional (Host: Georgia): Georgia, Michigan, Central Michigan, Ohio State, North Carolina State, Rutgers.
Baton Rouge Regional (Host: LSU): LSU, Stanford, Auburn, Arizona, Kent State, Iowa State.
Minneapolis Regional (Host: Minnesota): Oklahoma, Illinois, Minnesota, California, Southern Utah, San Jose State.
Seattle Regional (Host: Washington): Alabama, Nebraska, Boise State, Denver, BYU, Washington.
University Park Regional (Host: Penn State): Florida, Oregon State, Penn State, New Hampshire, Kentucky, Maryland.
For Utah, this NCAA Regional represents a chance to take care of some unfinished business because UCLA advanced to the Super Six last year -- while the Utes were eliminated in the first round.
