With the 2013 NCAA football live stream and televised bowl game schedule underway, one of the ranked teams from the top 25 in the nation will be in the spotlight on Thursday, Dec. 26. The Northern Illinois Huskies are currently ranked near the bottom of the top 25, but have had a stellar season nonetheless. They'll meet up with the Utah State Aggies in the Poinsettia Bowl hosted at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. The latest televised and live stream NCAA football game on the schedule comes to fans courtesy of ESPN's networks.
A USA Today report from Dec. 26 notes that Northern Illinois was booted from BCS contention by Bowling Green in the MAC title game, but they still received a trip to San Diego for tonight's game. Utah State also lost in the Mountain West championship game to Fresno State, but has put together a good run as it is, despite injuries. Speaking of injuries, their freshman quarterback Darell Garretson is expected to start tonight despite getting banged up a bit against Fresno State.
On the other side of the field for the offense is Jordan Lynch. The Huskies' quarterback is a dual-threat who has been able to achieve a great deal of passing and rushing yards over the course of his season. Lynch led the team in both categories, racking up 2,678 yards and 23 yards in the air, as well as 1,881 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground. His favorite target was Da'ron Brown who achived 689 yards and 9 touchdowns on 42 receptions this year.
The Aggies didn't play too many ranked opponents this season, as Fresno State was ranked #23 when they played back on Dec. 7 and now Northern Illinois holds that spot. Among their five losses on the season was a 17 point loss to BYU, but otherwise they didn't lose a game by more than eight points. Their defense has been stingy all season, allowing just 17.3 points per game to opponents, which was good for seventh in the nation. NIU ranks fourth in rushing with 312.5 yards a game and ninth in points for with 41.6 per game, but will Lynch be able to get past the Utah State defense?
Tonight's favorite is currently Utah State by as many as 2 1/2 points, even though the Huskies opened as 1 1/2 point favorites. The over/under points total for the game is set at 57 at various books, after opening at 56. Weather is expected to be clear with a kickoff temperature in the high 60's.
