Utah's Top Grossing On Demand Movies for Week ending January 24, 2014

Captain Phillips, starring the 2-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, was the top grossing On Demand movie in Utah last week.

Lee Daniels’ The Butler and Runner Runner rounded out the top three spots. Here are the top ten movies on On Demand in Utah last week:

In Captain Phillips, Tom Hanks portrays a Captain Richard Phillips, Alabama’s commanding officer in this Oscar nominated film. The storyline centers around the relationship between Phillips and Muse (the Somali pirate captain) who takes the Alabama ship hostage. The two characters are faced with an ensuing battle as they overcome forces beyond their control.

The second most viewed film on On Demand, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, features an award-winning cast comprised of: Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack—with appearances by Mariah Carey and Vanessa Redgrave. Lee Daniels portrays Cecil Gaines, a White House butler who serves eight presidents during his term. This film is set during the Vietnam and Civil Rights era and portrays the struggles that society and the American family went through during this time period.

Runner Runner came in third on Utah’s most watched On Demand list. Starring in this 2013 crime drama are Justin Timberlake, Ben Affleck, and Gemma Arterton. Timberlake plays Richie Furst, a poor college student who funds his college education by referring college students to an online poker game in which he receives a cut. Timberlake must confront the man who he believes cheated him.
