Gemini Farm is a beautiful facility, complete with large pastures, roomy paddocks and beautifully maintained stalls designed with the happiness and comfort of the horse in mind. A large indoor arena, 60-foot round pen and spacious outdoor ring (all with pristine footing) make this one of Utah’s premier equestrian facilities. Add in the fact that owners Todd and Adrienne Smyrl are exceptionally talented and dedicated trainers (and highly accomplished competitors) and this place is an absolute paradise for both horse and student.
Todd and Adrienne both have a calm, confident and encouraging teaching style that puts every rider, and every horse, at ease. They possess the impeccable timing and keen eye that are an absolute necessity to achieve correct and effective riding and produce a capable, competitive horse. Located out west in Rush Valley, you can reach the stables in approximately 50 minutes from Salt Lake City. If accepted into Gemini Farm’s program, serious competitors will find it’s well worth the drive.
Rose Ranch, where the first schooling show of the year will take place next weekend, is located in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley and the property is conveniently adjacent to the large and active Salt Lake Equestrian Park. Their phone number is 801-942-3591.
Watch any local UHJA event and you’re sure to be impressed with the number of young riders that regularly come out of this barn.
Arrowhead Stables, located north of SLC, in Layton, Utah, features trainer Nicole Weaver. With an annual pilgrimage to ride with The George Morris, Nicole is never one to rest on past laurels or rely on previous accomplishments. Constantly working to improve her own riding and training abilities, this is a trainer who pushes her riders to continuously better their skills.
Focusing on time-tested and proven basics, Weaver is able to build a solid and reliable foundation in her students, with the steady, reliable position they’ll need to work their way up the ranks. Watch any of the dedicated students on her team and you’ll quickly recognize the classic, quality style that top U.S. equestrians have become known for. For riders in the South Salt Lake/Sandy area, Nicole will also be spending some time teaching at Corner Canyon Stables on the east bench of Draper.
Hunter/jumper riders east of Salt Lake will want to check out Tilley Show Stables in Park City. This elegant facility is located at Promontory and features fine, roomy stalls, a large and perfectly groomed indoor arena, along with outdoor riding options. Trainer Denise Tilley is respected throughout the mountain state’s equestrian community as a top trainer, much-sought-after riding coach for jumpers of all ages, and a seasoned and successful competitor.
Denise brings a wealth of experience to the table and easily instills knowledge in her students. Her warm, exuberant teaching style is direct and positive, encouraging without being unnecessarily forceful, and she has a truly remarkable ability to turn just about any horse of any size, breed or disposition, into an enjoyable, playful and successful jumper.
Lynnleigh Farm on State Street in Sandy offers a lovely, pastoral setting. Horses are always well cared for and happy and hunter/jumper students enjoy the experienced coaching of Robin Sundeen. Plenty of shows and clinics are held at this well-established facility. Be sure to check out the 2013 event calendars for both UHJA and Wasatch Range Eventing Association to keep up on our area's upcoming equestrian events.
Kim Castro and her group, Three Peas on a Pony, offers great lessons, terrific local horse training and they have quite possibly the coolest team logo in the state of Utah. An avid eventer, Kim teaches at Salt Lake City's Hunter Arena (located next to I-215 in the Rose Park area) as well as in Heber/Midway.
Jump into the 2013 show season with a fun schooling show and some quality training.
