This month’s Vista Farms fun show takes place tomorrow, Saturday, August 17th.
One of West Jordan's most popular equine facilities, Vista is just east of Bangerter on 3400 West, near 9400 South. The barn is conveniently located and easy to find (click here to see the website and get directions to the stables).
As with all Vista schooling shows, riders of all ages and experience levels are welcome, as are horses of any breed! There is no charge to spectators, and all riders who wish to compete pay only $5.00 per class.
With a terrific assortment of both English/hunt seat and Western events, there are countless options to choose from. Be sure to see Vista’s website for the complete class list and schedule. English flat classes (no jumping) start bright and early at 9:00 in the morning. In-hand and Western classes follow the noon lunch break.
The top five places will be rewarded with ribbons in every class. In addition to their ribbon, first-place winners will also receive “Vista bucks” that can be traded in for a prize in the Vista store! Those awarded the first-place Vista bucks have the choice of spending their price 'money' right away, or saving them up for a bigger prize at next month’s show or the final series’ event in late October.
Don’t worry about what to wear. Come in casual, comfortable attire and dress to have fun! All riders age 18 and under are required to wear helmets. While the adult participants are strongly encouraged to wear them too, it’s not a rule for those who are 19 and over.
Spectators of all ages are asked to be respectful of the competitors and their horses. Please keep little ones from climbing on the facility’s fences or trees, and of course, keep excessive noise or activity to a minimum; no one wants to distract the horses or prevent the competitors from doing their very best.
There’s plenty of parking both on site and on the adjacent street. The main parking spots may fill up fast, but you’re likely to find room at the back of the property (on the far east side). If the rear parking area is full you should find space along 3400 West (this is a dead end road with very minimal traffic).
Competitors are asked to tie their horses at their trailers, as there are no hitching posts near the riding arenas. Call the barn to ask about stall rental if needed. Often there are a few available to rent on the day of the show.
Anyone who’s ever had the pleasure of riding in, or watching, the Vista fun shows knows that Mandy Allred goes out of her way to make their events well-organized and fun for everyone! Don’t hesitate to join in; if you’re new to showing, this is the ideal way to jump in and enjoy a relaxed and happy first-show experience. Even seasoned experts like to sign up and practice their show-pen prowess.
Whether you decide to show or join the supportive crowd of spectators, there’s no doubt you’ll have a great time at Vista Farm. Hope to see you at the barn on Saturday, August 17th!
