This is one busy week in our local horse community! The annual Horse Expo takes place once again at the Salt Lake Equestrian Park in South Jordan. For information on barefoot hoof trimming, the latest training techniques, a glimpse at assorted breeds, horse trailers, deals on riding apparel and tack along with custom bits, the best beef jerky and so much more, take a trip down to South Jordan and spend some time at the expo. See the Utah Horse Council's event’s website for more details, scheduling and ticket pricing.
While you’re there, check out the Salty Dash barrel races. Time only runs will be held on Friday evening, giving green horses or beginning riders a chance to test out some fun practice runs without the pressure of competition. The actual races will take place in the covered outdoor arena on both Saturday and Sunday.
How about a little friendly competition that doesn’t involve the blistering hot speeds of barrel racing? Pegasus Event Center in Grantsville (just a quick and scenic 38 minute drive out west from SLC) is holding another of their popular Open Western Shows this weekend (Saturday, March 15). Sign up for Western Pleasure, fun not-too-speedy speed events including barrels and poles, and more. The affordable classes are just $5 each, or you can pay $35 for the entire day! Those who place will be rewarded with ribbons and great prizes amidst a playful, relaxed atmosphere.
If you've ever considered trying out the show pen, head out to Pegasus (385 E. Clark Street, Grantsville, UT) and join in the fun! Horses of all breeds and western riders of all ages and experience levels are welcome. This Saturday’s show will start at 10:00 a.m. For more information or to register online, check out their website.
That's a lot of exceptional equine activity packed into just 3 days! Whatever you do, you’re sure to have fun. Enjoy!
