Utah’s horse world – fun shows in April throughout the Salt Lake Valley

Looking for some horse-related weekend fun in and around the Salt Lake area?

Let the weekend start early! On Thursday evening (April 4) the Legacy Event Center in Farmington will host a cutting event. Check out the Legacy arena (Davis County) website for more details.

Don’t forget the Vista Farm’s fun show in South Jordan on Saturday, April 6. This playful, friendly stable welcomes kids of all ages. Riders of any level are invited to participate in the first of Vista’s 2013 show series.

Click here to check out our previous article for more details! You can also look at the Vista Farm website and contact Mandy for additional information. Even if you’re not interested in competing, you can stop by to watch the action and support our local riders. Classes start with English/hunt seat and in-hand (halter or showmanship events). After lunch the western events begin.

For some high-flying excitement, head over to Rose Ranch for the show season’s first hunter/jumper event.

Classes begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday (April 6) with 2’ jumps, moving on up to the higher levels. At noon there will be lead line classes for the little ones. Conveniently located on Redwood Road, Rose Ranch is just east of the Salt Lake Equestrian Park.

Watch for up and coming UHJA riders along with some of the Wasatch front’s most well-known competitors. Sarah Ellington will be riding her OTTB Raj (Sarah and her horses train with Todd and Adrienne Smryl of Gemini Farm), while WREA eventer Sussi Fellesen may compete with her talented young mare, Itzi. Trainer Denise Tilley (of Tilley Show Stables) will participate at this early event along with her group of skilled and accomplished students.

Next weekend (Saturday, April 13) Grantsville’s Pegasus event center will host a hunter/jumper schooling show as well. See the Pegasus website for more details, or contact Jaime Topham directly with any questions about show times and entry fees.

Come out to cheer on our local equestrians at the first of many exciting local horse shows and events!
