As our weather heats up in early June, so does the equestrian activity throughout the greater Salt Lake area. Along with the thrilling third leg of the triple crown, this coming Saturday (June 7) offers some home-grown horse-related excitement.
The Wasatch Pony Club, along with some assistance from the Wasatch Range Eventing Association, hosts their annual Chicken event at Golden Spike event center (Ogden, UT) throughout the day. The 3-part competition begins bright and early at 8:00 a.m. with dressage classes at all levels, from beginner on up to accomplished experts. After the intricate and graceful demands of dressage, we move on to stadium jumping. Following the stadium jumping, competitors head out to the fast-paced and challenging cross country course.
If you've never before watched the variety of eventing, come up to Ogden and find a shady spot under a tree to enjoy the competition.
For those who would like to learn more about Utah's mustangs, the annual Wild Horse and Burro festival will take place both Friday, beginning at 4:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. on (June 6-7) at the Legacy Events Center in Farmington.
Considered part of our national heritage, several of these majestic and free-spirited equines will be available for adoption to approved homes and knowledgeable handlers.
There will be educational exhibits and performances by several accomplished local horsemen (and women) who've had success in gentling these wonderful animals.
Come out this weekend and watch some of the excitement that Utah's horse world has to offer!
