A Utah police officer shot and killed his family before killing himself in a heartbreaking murder/suicide according to police. On Jan. 17, the New York Daily News reported that 34-year-old Joshua Boren shot his wife, his two young children (ages 7 and 5), and his mother-in-law before taking his own life. Police found the bodies when they went to his house after he didn't show up for his shift.

"Officers who looked through the window saw blood on the carpet and shell casings in the front room of the two-story home, police said. When they went inside, they found Boren’s 55-year-old mother-in-law Marie King dead in a bedroom, and Joshua Boren and his immediate family dead in the bedroom next door," reports the New York Daily News.

The Utah police officer shocked his friends and co-workers, many of whom said that they couldn't believe that Boren was capable of doing such a thing. Police had never been called to his home and it seemed as though he and his wife had a pretty solid marriage.

According to the report, Boren didn't leave a suicide note. An investigation is pending however no motive has been released. Police do not yet know what might have led up to the murder. In the photo above taken from Kelly Boren's Facebook page. The mother of two posted a "Throwback Thursday" photo of her kids just two days ago. It was her last post.

The Utah police officer seemed to have a great life with a beautiful family. More details here.
