Friday, Sara Brandon spoke to ABC News about her 14 pound baby born Utah in May; the baby is estimated to be the biggest baby of the year in the US. Sara said that Joel Brando Jr. is going great and she has had to search desperately for large diapers for her newborn.
At the time, doctors estimated that Joel would be about 11 pounds, but when he was born and weighed the doctor told Sara that is was biggest baby I have ever delivered. Joel was born by cesarean birth and Sara said it was a difficult birth. Joel was born with type 1 diabetes and sometimes that lends to a bigger baby size. An estimated 1 out of every 100,000 might weigh as much as 14 pounds, according to ABC News.
“When they stuck him on the scale he was 14 pounds even,” Sara told ABC News Friday. “The doctor said it was the biggest baby he had ever delivered.”
“I had to have two [obstetricians] deliver him instead of one, because they knew he was going to be big. They struggled to get him out.”
Joel had to spend 10 days in the ICU in Utah after his birth, but since then his health has been great, according to his mom.
