Utah man among soldiers killed in Afghanistan helicopter crash

One of the soldiers shot down in a helicopter over Afghanistan on Saturday has been identified as Jason Workman, of Blanding. The helicopter was serving a rescue mission when it was shot down by insurgents in an embattled zone of the country. Workman, 32, was one of 22 Navy SEALS on board the Chinook helicopter.

38 people were on board the chopper when it went down; all of them were killed. Jason Workman, along with the other Seals on the copter, were part of SEAL Team Six. The same Team Six that has been credited with executing the raid that captured Osama bin Laden earlier this year. The Team Six men who died in Saturday's crash were not a part of the bin Laden mission.

By all accounts, Jason Workman was as deserving of his elite status as a Navy SEAL as one can ever be. A man who loved his family, his community, and his country, Workman wanted to be a Seal from the time he was a young boy. His family remembers him as someone who would always go out of his way to help others.

His parents are preparing to fly to Virginia to receive his body; he had been living there with his wife and 21-month-old son.
