Tuesday, Utah had the highest gas prices in the country at $2.98 per gallon; just behind Alaska at $3.51 per gallon, and Hawaii at $3.50 per gallon, according to AAA Utah. Although the current price is 16 cents less than last month, the national average is $2.72 which is down 18 cents in the last month.

"When gasoline prices for all states are compared before taxes and fees are added in, Utahns have paid the highest amount in the lower 48 states for gasoline every single day since March 24," AAA Utah spokeswoman Rolayne Fairclough said.

Many Utah residents believe that the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has affected gas prices here, but according to an article from AAA Utah last month it has more to do with high transportation prices.

YIKES! That is high. We just got ours down to $2.75 per gallon in Rhode Island. It's been going down every week for a while now, but I don't think we'll ever see $1.99 again!
