Utah football: Former Utes LB Trevor Reilly gets no love in NFL Draft 2014 mocks

As if former Utah Utes linebacker Trevor Reilly hasn’t been through enough drama, he now gets to prepare for NFL Draft 2014 -- and all the hullabaloo that goes with it, including mock drafts and projections.

A article on Thursday, April 10 has Reilly going in the late second round to early third round of NFL Draft 2014 -- but even so, what reporter Frank Cooney said in that article about Reilly probably deserves an explanation.

In his article Cooney outlines the outside linebacker position at NFL Draft 2014 -- but he may have went too far calling Reilly soft. Does he know Trevor Reilly? The guy who led the Utah Utes with 100 tackles in a bad year, had 8.5 sacks and basically carried a wounded unit that went 5-7 overall on his back?

It’s not like Trevor Reilly hasn’t seen enough heartache to last a lifetime. He’s been in the trenches with his 19-month-old daughter -- who had a tumor in her kidney removed a few short months ago -- and saw that process through.

Then Trevor Reilly had to deal with a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in 2012 -- before undergoing a second clean-out surgery this past January.

But Cooney cares little about Reilly -- and frankly, he doesn’t know much about the guy. He does his best to cloak his actual feelings -- then offers Trevor Reilly an olive branch of sorts.

“He could be a little tougher on the field, but it is hard to criticize a guy with his credentials in life and in football and whose youngest daughter (Shayn, 19 months) had a kidney tumor removed and is battling cancer. Best wishes to the Reilly family,” Cooney added in his article.

Cooney is right; Trevor Reilly is soft. That's sarcasm, by the way.

Even the Web site for which Cooney writes doesn’t have Reilly going in the second round in its Mock Draft -- even if the San Diego Chargers who pick 26th in the second are reported to have serious interest. Imagine that; a 26-year-old from Southern California going to his hometown Chargers at No. 26.

Enough about one site. Here’s the deal about Trevor Reilly. Nobody is giving him -- and his talents -- any respect. They say he’s 26 and too old to play long in the NFL.

Another Mock Draft by Sports Illustrated’s Fan Sided on Wednesday, April 9 has him going to the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round (158th overall).

Same goes for, another fan site that put up its latest Mock Draft on Wednesday, April 9. It also has Reilly going well beyond what has him projected to go -- in the fourth round of NFL Draft 2014 to the Tennessee Titans -- another team that Reilly has worked out for.

Seems like no fan site, or NFL Draft 2014 expert -- or Mock Draft -- trusts Trevor Reilly. But that's okay; he'll prove them all wrong soon enough.
