On March 22, 2013 Utah will join hands in a unique day of giving with Love UT Give UT. On this special fundraising day your donation dollars will go further because of the many challenge grants that are in place. This type of online event has been very successful in other states raising millions of dollars and bringing new donors to organizations.
Amongst the many non-profits participating is Friends for Animal Care and Effective Solutions (Utah FACES). Utah FACES assists Salt Lake County Animal Services in eliminating euthanasia and helping them reach their goal of being a non-kill shelter.
In 2012, 89.5% of dogs and 70% of cats that went to Salt Lake County Animal Services lived! This is an incredible step forward! Much of the success has been due to the partnership efforts of Utah FACES with SLCAS.
Utah FACES hopes to raise the funds necessary to buy a much needed x-ray machine. Currently when animals need x-rays they need to be sent to an off-site clinic and the trip can be very painful and cumbersome for the dog or cat. The cost of a veterinary radiograph machine is between 50-60K. A blood machine is around 20K. Having an on-site x-ray and blood machine would save time and money in transportation costs and could save the lives of animals who are not able to make the additional trip to another clinic.
