November 3, 2009 is municipal general election day. Poles are open from 7 am to 8 pm MST. Early voting was available from October 20-30, 2009. Here are three major issues up for vote on Tuesday. The SLC.gov link below includes detailed information on each of the three and the Desert News endorses these three.
Proposition 1, Public Safety Facilities
Salt Lake City's public safety building – voters are asked to support a $125 million bond to build a new public safety administration building. A property tax increase of $75 for a home valued at $261,000 would be required.
Granite School District Bond
The school district previously borrowed $256 million for new schools and improvements. The school board would use $17 million set aside each year to retire the bond debt, which means no increase in property taxes.
Davis School District Bond
The district plans to replace Wasatch Elementary school in Clearfield, two new junior highs, three elementary schools, and a special needs school and plans to use funds previously set aside (retire bonds).
