Utah couple arrested after razor blades in donut scam fails

Two people were arrested Monday in Draper, Utah, after they fed a coworker store bought donuts with broken pieces of razor blades inside.

The couple placed the razor blades into a third doughnut, which they gave to a coworker. The coworker was unaware of the metal shards contained in the breakfast pastry.

The duo, whose names were not released, planned on putting bits of razor blades into the doughnuts, biting into them, and suing the store.

It was a scam to bilk grocery chain Smith's out of a settlement. Similar settlements have occurred after customers have found mice, broken glass, or other debris in food products.

No one was hurt eating the metal shards, despite swallowing flecks of metal.

The pair was charged with filing a false report and aggravated assault. They are currently being held in Salt Lake County jail.

No word on whether the arresting officers were swearing off doughnuts for the foreseeable future.
