Utah in bloom

On January 24th, 25th and 26th, the Utah Nursery and Landscape Association (UNLA) will be putting on its annual Green Industry Conference and Tradeshow at the South Towne Expo in Sandy, Utah.

This event is open to members of UNLA, Trade Associates, students and others interested in learning about the state of the Green Industry in Utah. As chair of the Design/Build track, I am very excited about this year's line-up of informed, articulate speakers who will share their passion and knowledge of this industry.

Utah State Extension "Gardening Guru" Jerry Goodspeed will be lecturing on Common Sense Sensibility. This talk was extremely well received at last year's conference, and I am so pleased that he agreed to share his ideas on reducing inputs again this year.

Local Landscape Designer Steve Pendleton creates magnificent gardens on a truly grand scale and will be sharing his philosophy of Landscaping as An Art Form, while Landscape Architect Rosa Finsley of Texas, a woman with a contagious spirit and enthusiasm, will bring us up to date on the changes that are occurring in the designs of landscapes across the nation.

The always popular and entertaining Joy Bossi, from Joy in the Garden radio program, will be discussing Spirit and Emotion in the Garden. Come on a 'Virtual Garden Tour' with respected Salt Lake City Landscape Architect Eric Lyman, who will be providing his unique insight into what works and doesn't work in a garden, and why.

Dr. Michael Timmons from Utah State University will be leading a two hour workshop on advanced Site Analysis for Landscape Professionals and The Wild Bird Center's Bill Fenimore will show us how to attract birds to the garden through the introduction of native plant species. The conference will end for this track with a history of Utah Landscape and Gardens by Landscape Historian, Ester Truitt.
