The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga used a 14-6 run in the first five minutes of the second half to create separation from the College of Charleston, and then went on to a 73-58 victory on Feb. 16.
Ashlen Dewart led the way with 24 points, 20 of those points came in the second half, and 13 caroms for Chattanooga (22-3, 15-1 in the Southern Conference). The win was the Lady Mocs 12th in a row.
With the score tied 39-39 at halftime, Dewart came out strong in the second half and outscored the College of Charleston 10-2 in the first 3:06. Then after the Cougars Afreyea Tolbert knocked down a jumper to cut the deficit to 49-43, the Lady Mocs went on a 13-3 run to push their lead to the largest of the game 62-46 with 8:03 to play.
The College of Charleston was held without a field goal for 9:03 during Chattanooga’s second half run. The Cougars did have another run in them as Latisha Harris scored six of their points in an 8-0 over the next 1:43 to cut the Lady Mocs’ lead to 62-54 with 4:55 to play. However, Chattanooga ended the game on an 11-4 spurt.
"I cannot say enough about the second half,” Chattanooga head coach Wes Moore said following the game. “Our kids gutted it out and out-rebounded them by 19 in the second half. Frye scored one point and we did not give up any threes to her. I think our point guards did a great job all day on Brown. She makes them go. She is either going to push it or sling it down the floor. She really ignites their transition game. I thought our point guards did a good job of shadowing here all day. Good team win.”
Faith Dupree scored 13 on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and Taylor Hall tallied 10 points and hauled in six rebounds for the Lady Mocs .Tatianna Jackson and Kayla Christopher each pulled down seven rebounds for Chattanooga.
Tolbert led the College of Charleston (11-13, 7-8) with 15 points while Harris and Alyssa Frye each added 11 points.

- Chattanooga leads the all-time series 28-8.
-Dewart, who only played five minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, notched her fifth double-double of the season. She was 11-of-21 from the field
- Christopher, who led the Lady Mocs with four assists, moved into second place on the school’s all-time list 217.
- Chattanooga out-rebounded Charleston 53-36 including 24-15 in the second half. The Lady Macs outscored the Cougars 40-18 in the paint and 25-12 off the bench.
- College of Charleston won the turnover battle as they committed 10 turnovers and forced 15.
- The Lady Mocs improved to 11-0 when scoring 70 or more points.
