Malicious websites often use client-side scripting exploits to gain control of vulnerable computers. Using the NoScript add-on for Firefox provides your computer with a layer of protection against these unscrupulous developers. NoScript blocks JavaScript, Java, Flash, Silverlight and other executable web contents by default, while allowing you to whitelist certain websites you trust such as online banking sites.

Installing the NoScript add-on is a simple process, and a familiar one for seasoned users of Firefox. Visit the NoScript page on the Mozilla Firefox add-ons website and click on the 'Add to Firefox' button. You will be prompted to restart Firefox. Once it has restarted the NoScript add-on will be active.

When scripts have been blocked on a page you'll notice an information bar across the bottom of the Firefox window providing status information as well as an options button. Clicking on the options button will allow you to alter NoScript's settings. For example, if you want to allow scripts on the current site, you can do that with two clicks. NoScript's options may also be accessed through the Firefox Add-ons dialog box.

Firefox is a registered trademark of the Mozilla Foundation.
