There is a downside to the high technology revolution which is upon us, regarding health issues. Using high technology smartphones and computers certainly can make a lot of things easier and more fun for a lot of people who can afford them, but these devices do not provide you with good nutrition and exercise. It has been reported in a news release from Kent State University on Dec. 6, 2013, that frequent cell phone use is linked to anxiety, lower grades and reduced happiness in students.

Smartphones are everywhere these days and are being used by college students to keep them connected with friends, family and the Internet. Students seem to want their smartphones with them all of the time, and so it is important to determine how the constant use of these devices is effecting their well being.

Researchers at Kent State found that increased cell phone use was negatively related to GPA and positively related to anxiety. Furthermore, it has been found GPA was positively related to happiness while anxiety was negatively related to happiness. Therefore, it was observed that high frequency cell phone users generally have lower GPAs, higher anxiety, and less happiness relative to their peers who used the cell phone less often. This study has been published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior.

Today Health reports that cell phones are actually death-to-health devices. Cell phones allow us to sit and text, email, play video games, watch TV or read, at anytime of the day or night and wherever we may be. Aside from the findings of anxiety and poor grades in frequent cell phone users, Kent State researchers have also found frequent use of cell phones encourages a sedentary lifestyle. The researchers concluded that their findings have suggested that cell phone use may be an indicator of a person's risk for many health issues which are related to a sedentary lifestyle, which includes obesity.

Therefore, frequent cell phone use may lead to your becoming depressed, anxious and overweight. It appears possible that as a priority for more exercise becomes lessened with increased cell phone use, there may also be a lack of a firm commitment to other important natural ways of life to help stay healthy, such as eating nutritional food, meditating, and just spending more time in nature. A naturally healthy lifestyle generally appears to be a package deal wherein a commitment to one aspect of living well is associated with other aspects of healthy living.

This is all really too bad, with it appearing more and more people may also decide to spend less time playing with their kids, dogs and pet rabbits, and more time feeding an addiction to stay active online all of the time. One good answer to this problem is to have more online interests stress the value of healthy lifestyles to stay healthy, as Dr Harold Mandel Online does.
