Using God's light and power for guidance through the storms of the coming year

Last month, as the Christmas story was being told, Christians heard how some wise men from the east following the light of God’s special star to Bethlehem so they could worship the new born King of the Jews as recorded in Matthew 2:1-11.

Just as the wise men needed the light of God’s special star to guide them through the darkness of their long journey to the place where God wanted them to be; so also Christians need to follow the light given them in the Bible and the indwelling Holy Spirit to guide them through the many forms of darkness and obstacles that are part of living in our modern world.

In Psalm 119:105 (NASB), God proclaims that His “Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” This means that Christians need to use the spiritual light that comes from God’s principles for living found in the Bible to guide them through the intense spiritual, moral, and intellectual darkness that is all around them as they go through their daily activities.

Christians need the light from God’s principles for living, as well as the power of the Holy Spirit and their love for their Savior, Jesus Christ, to help them from being either distracted or pulled away from their Christian lifestyle by the darkness of demonic deceptions and the fleshly temptations that are thrown at them by various forms of the entertainment industry.

Christians further need the light from the spiritual discernment of the Holy Spirit to tell them when they are being spiritually attacked by the Devil and his spiritual forces of darkness. When Christians realize that is happening, they can use the name of Jesus Christ, their spiritual weapons described in Ephesians 6:10-18, and the power of the Holy Spirit to bind the attacking demonic forces and cast them into the abyss/lake of fire to stay there forever.

Along with fighting off the problems caused by demonic forces, Christians need to use the guidance of God’s Word and the insight of the Holy Spirit as they go through the various storms in the financial, physical, or relationship areas of their lives.

As Christians go through and fight the problems caused by those spiritual battles and storms, it can drain a lot of the spiritual, mental, and physical energy out of them.

Therefore, they need to be continuously renewed every day by reading God’s Word, talking to God in prayer about their problems, and being filled the power of the Holy Spirit in order to be able fight any new battles coming against them.

The more that Christians do those things on a daily basis, the more light they will have to guide them through the great darkness that is around them as they live in modern society and the more power that they will have to fight the many battles of the various storms that will come against them in the coming year.
