The University of San Francisco has named the San Francisco Giants as the recipient of the 2012 USF California Prize for Service and the Common Good. This prestigious community award will be presented to the SF Giants at the USF California Prize Dinner on November 12, 2012 and will honor the significant advancements and innovations the well-loved baseball team has contributed to the community.
The San Francisco Giants, through the organizations' Giants Community Fund and Junior Giants Baseball, has designed and implemented programs in the community which have made an impact on children and families. The programs reach about 20,000 boys and girls every year in over 100 communities. The baseball programs are free and teach children confidence, integrity, leadership and teamwork.
This is the fifth year USF has awarded the USF California Prize to a worthy organization or individual who has made an impact on the community. Previous recipients of the USF California Prize include Daniel Lurie of Tipping Point Community in 2011, OneCalifornia Bank & Foundation in 2010, Alice Waters in 2009 and Lynn Fritz of the Fritz Institute in 2008.
