USDA offers outreach grants to improve SNAP access

Washington DC area nonprofits working with low to moderate income families should consider applying for grants offered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). These grants are designed to implement effective strategies to inform and educate potentially eligible low income residents, who are not currently participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The funding is to educate on the nutritional benefits, eligibility rules and how to apply.

For-profit organizations, state and local food stamp offices are not eligible. Awards range up to $75,000 per grant for outreach activities lasting 1-2 years. For additional information, visit their website at http://www.fnsusda.gov/snap/outreach/grants.
