USC 101: The many ways to catch USC football in 2009

5.  R.V.

For the diehards out there, it is not enough to catch the home games live and the road games on television. So, many take to the road, traveling all around the country to root on the Men of Troy to victory. What better way to make the trip than in an RV, otherwise known as a “Recreational Vehicle.” By using an RV to get around, many fans can bypass the hassles of finding accommodations and, instead, form a mobile fan base or, better yet, a party brigade. Driving around the country in a giant motor home may not be for everyone, but it is a fun way to see the country while seeing every USC Trojans football game in person. With the availability of tickets through websites like Stubhub, Craigslist and Ebay (not to mention the occasional scalper), it is relatively easy to pick up tickets to almost any USC game.

 4.  Sports Bar

What better way to enjoy watching the Men of Troy destroy the competition than with a beer in hand and a plate of wings in front of you. A sports bar is a great way to spend your Saturday watching the Trojans. Get a couple of your fellow Trojans buddies together and head out to the local pub for a couple of rounds and good times. Be smart and safe people, this might not be Arizona, but a DUI still costs a pretty penny; so, when in need, cab it home.

3.  ESPN 710AM

Something that many people do not realize is the fact that there are a number of individuals, who work on Saturdays! Surprise, surprise, not everyone has the luxury of watching USC football, so they must find alternative means of following their Trojans. A great way to keep up with the exploits of the Men of Troy on the job is to tune your little transistor radio to 710 AM. With Pete Arbogast covering play-by-play and Paul McDonald chipping in as your Trojans’ analyst, you can easily follow your USC Trojans without having the constraints of being tied to the television. Tuning in to ESPN 710 AM is a great way to get your USC football fix if you are at work or on the road.

2.  The Couch

Ahh, the comforts of home. While there is nothing better than viewing a sporting event live, the advancements in high-definition television have made watching football at home a close second. If you are the type of person who does not care for traffic, congestion or the rowdiness of the bar scene, then achieve couch-potato status by tuning in to your Trojans via television. Whether it is ABC, ESPN or the Fox Sports Network (FSN), you can tune in weekly to get your fix of USC football. So throw some ribs on the barbecue, ice down some frosty beverages and secure a seat on the couch for your viewing pleasure.

 1.  Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

The number one spot to catch a USC Trojans football game is to purchase a ticket and attend a game live at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Built in 1923, the Coliseum is one of the biggest stadiums in the country, seating over 92,000 people. Simply put, there is no shortage of seats, so get your ticket and head down to the Coliseum for all of the fun. There is no better feeling than sitting in the stands around thousands of your fellow Trojans faithful, hooting, hollering and cheering your team to victory.

Whether it is the swarming fans, the hot dogs, the draft beers or the song girls, there is a certain appeal to rooting on your team in person and making your presence known. Another benefit of live attendance is tailgating. The party doesn't start at kickoff. No, no, no! The party starts when you get there. Show up early to the game and begin a pre-game array of grilling your favorite foods, drinking your favorite beverages and carousing with other USC fans. It is the perfect way to get ready to watch some USC football at the Coliseum (Go Trojans).

The RV option is loads of fun. That's because the party begins when you drive away from the curb at home. I've rented RVs from El Monte RV for many years and driven to Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, BYU, Colorado, and Arizona State. For extra fun, try going to ASU by way of Las Vegas. For reduced fun (at least for the driver), try coming home from Stanford by way of Highway 1 (through Big Sur). The southward route is on the ocean side of the narrow, winding road. For the more rowdy fans, fill the shower with beer and ice. With a big crowd, someone will always want to sleep on the roof. The grove outside of Stanford is the best parking spot. Cal doesn't always have a decent place to park. We've dropped everyone at Kips and then the driver and a good friend go 2 miles away to find a spot on the street. The trip can be enhanced with stops at wineries (or breweries). If you have someone handy with electricity, you can run a DVD player or video game while on the road.

Tom, I think it's safe to say that I want to party with you man!

For someone living outside the U.S., there is no way to use any of the above to follow USC games.
I would seriously appreciate any OTHER suggestions.

delowe, thank you for your comments. I apologize for overlooking the global aspect of catching USC football games. At the bottom I have provided the link to ESPN710's website where you can get a livestream of their radio broadcast online. I will also look into whether any of USC's games will be video-streamed this coming season. Hope this helps!
