When a veteran passes away, an honor guard presents the colors, sounds “Taps” and fires a 21-gun salute. While this is a courtesy to the family of the deceased, it still costs money to provide the service. There is currently a shortage in funding, for this program.
“Every veteran has the right to the dignity of this service. Unfortunately the cost is prohibiting this from being done all the time for everyone,” says U.S. A,F, Lt. Col. Lisa Amburgey of Delavan also a member of the Civil Air Patrol.
Amburgey and her comrades of the 26th U.S. Air Force Wisconsin Civil Wing Air Patrol will be hosting a benefit to raise funds for honor guards at veterans funerals Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Champ's Sports Bar & Grill, 747 W. Main Street, Lake Geneva.
The Summer Pig Roast Benefit will feature potato salad, Cole slaw, baked beans and dinner rolls. There will be a silent auction featuring many sports & fun items including Green Bay Packers memorabilia and tickets to future sporting events.
Tickets are $8.00 for adults, $7.00 for children six years old and under. Tickets have been donated by Pete's Printing of Lake Geneva.
