USA struggle for 1-0 Gold Cup win over Guadeloupe, advance to quarterfinals

June 14, the USA managed a 1-0 win over tiny Guadeloupe in CONCACAF Gold Cup, finishing second in Group C and moving on to the quarterfinals. The U.S. Men's National Team will now face Group B winner Jamaica on June 19 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Panama, who defeated the United States 2-1, finished at the top of Group C.

Both USA and Guadeloupe came out strong, but Jozy Altidore scored in the ninth minute and Guadeloupe were unable to equalize.

The U.S. disappointed by not defeating such a minor opponent and non-FIFA ranked team by a greater differential. The USA created chances but were unable to finish, almost to the point of comedy. Of their 21 shots, only five were on goal. Guadelope only launched five shots, none on goal.
