The USA Pro Cycling Challenge rolled through Colorado. Many ski and snowboarding enthusiasts are cycling fans in the summer. Why? Because road cycling has some similar crossover skills to skiing and riding. Plus, seeing professional riders zoom past you at 40-50 mph is exciting!
Here are the overall results of the 2013 USA Pro Cycling Challenge:
How are road cycling and skiing/snowboarding similar? First, all sports require balance. Cycling can help improve your fore/aft balance when going over bumps or when braking. Lateral balance skills improve when cornering on the bike by tipping the bike frame more than your body. This can give you a sensation similar to when you tip your skis up on edge.
Another added benefit of cycling is the cardiovascular workout. Climbing requires work, energy, and can get your legs into shape for ski season.
There is only 80 days or so until ski season, what are you doing to get ready? Why not try road cycling?
