Stage 2 of the USA Pro Challenge explores a route that has not been raced in the event’s previous 3 years. Each year, race organizers look for a stand out major climb and mountain challenge. Previous years included Bachelor Gulch and the dirt road up Cottonwood Pass. This year is a double pass climb that includes McClure Pass at 8,763 feet and the dirt roads up Kehbler Pass at 9,980 feet.

The stage begins with a fast downhill down Highway 82 from Aspen to Carbondale, losing over 1,700 feet over 29 miles. After crossing the sprint line in Carbondale a gradual climb begins on Highway 133, covering 24 miles to the crest of McClure Pass and the first King of the Mountain. The course has a steep 13 mile downhill before entering the dirt road (county road 12) climb to Kebler Pass. After the second King of the Mountain on Kebler, the racers will experience a 1,072 foot decent to Crested Butte follow by a short finish line climb at the ski area.
