The 2014 USA Pro Challenge begins stage 1 with fabulous repeat from last year, the Aspen to Snowmass circuit race. The 20 mile loop will be lapped 6 times for a total of a 60.9 miles race (0.9 miles for the 2 start lap in Aspen) . The course includes 2,300 feet of climbing between the Roaring Fork Valley and the hills of Snowmass. Particularly tricky will be narrow roadway over Maroon Creek Bridge, squeezing the competition into a lineup before the climb up Snowmass. Starting elevation of in Aspen is 7,900 ft. with the high point at 8,353 ft, about 6 miles from the start line. Be sure to consult the on-line Spectator Guide and the official Stage 1 Map.
It is no surprise that the race planners retained this stage from last year. This is one of the best courses for spectators to view. First, the intimate historical town of Aspen is a delightful place to vacation for the weekend or visit for the day. Next, there are multiple opportunities to meet fan's favorite racers, as the team buses are parked downtown and have planned appearances before start time.
